Sophomore quarterback Tyler Bass will have season-ending surgery Tuesday to repair a torn labrum in his left, non-throwing, shoulder.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Barry Phillips and Dr. Barney Freeman of the Campbell Clinic.

Bass played in four games this season, making starts against UT Martin and Marshall.

Against UT Martin, he had the best performance of any Tiger QB, in their first career start, in 38 years when he completed 22 of 28 passes for 293 yards and four touchdowns.

He also rushed for 80 yards and a score on 16 carries in Memphis' 41-14 win over the Skyhawks.

The Atlanta, Ga., native played as a true freshman in 2008 after Memphis lost quarterbacks Arkelon Hall and Will Hudgens to injuries in the first quarter against East Carolina.

He played against ECU in the fourth quarter and saw considerable action in the rotation the next game against Southern Miss before suffering a knee injury against the Golden Eagles. He had knee surgery last November.

In his six games in a Tiger uniform, Bass has completed 67 percent of his passes (63-94) for 774 yards and seven touchdowns. He has also rushed for 259 yards and two TDs on 56 carries.

Earlier this season, Bass had completed long scoring plays in three consecutive games to Duke Calhoun.

He tossed an 85-yard TD against UT Martin and a week later reached Calhoun for an 80-yard score versus Marshall. Against UCF, the duo paired up again for a 61-yard score.
