Brittany Carter Lands Pro Contract
Former University of Memphis women's basketball player Brittany Carter (Covington, Ga./Newton County HS) has signed a professional contract to play basketball overseas in the Israel with the Galil Elion basketball team beginning in October. Hapoel Galil Elyon plays in the top division for women in Israel.
Carter will have three other American teammates - Texas A&M's Sydney Carter and Adaora Elonu and Missouri's Christine Flores.
Carter capped her three-year Tiger career in May and was a three-time All-C-USA honoree and was the 2010 C-USA Newcomer of the Year. She left Memphis ranked 13th in career scoring in just three seasons with 1,437 points and 422 rebounds.
In 93 career games, Carter made 79 starts and became the first Tiger to earn three straight all-conference nods since Tamika Whitmore earned three straight from 1997-1999. Carter holds the University of Memphis single game scoring record with a 49-point effort at the University of Washington tournament in her sophomore campaign. That 49-points is the most-ever scored by any University of Memphis player (male or female) and was also a C-USA women's single game mark.
This will be the second international basketball trip for Carter since she left Memphis back in May. After going through the WNBA preseason training camp with the Connecticut Sun, she joined an All-Star team that toured China in June and July.
Carter becomes the most recent Tiger women's basketball player to join the professional ranks, following WNBA players Tamika Whitmore and LaTonya Johnson and former Tigers Victoria Crawford and Alex Winchell. Crawford played professionally in Iceland, while Alex Winchell played a few games in the Czech Republic back in February.
