Battle of the Tigers

In the battle of the Tigers it was the Blue and Gray Tigers who did all of the scoring and shut out the other Tigers from Missouri. Behind excellent pitching from the Memphis southpaw Sam Moll, Memphis picked up their second win of the season. Tucker Tubbs hit the first homerun of the season for the Tigers.

Memphis jumped out to an early two run lead. Carter White reached on a one out double and was knocked in by Tubbs left field homer. In the third inning White recorded another run after being
knocked in by a Drew Griffin left field double.

The fourth and fifth innings were scoreless but Memphis displayed nice offense in the sixth. Bryce Beeler led off with a hard hit left center hit. With the pitch count at 2-1 Jake Little blasted a triple down the left centerline that nearly went over the fence. Little was knocked in by a Ford Wilson single up the middle. Zach Willis led off the seventh inning with a nice double to left center. He advanced to third off a C. White single. Willis scored off of Tubbs sac fly.

Then craziness happened for Missouri. Austin Hatfield pinch ran for a banged up Carter White. As the Missouri pitcher attempted to throw to third to appeal Willis leaving early he overthrew the ball and Hatfield advanced from first to third. Hatfield was eventually thrown out at home after plowing over the Missouri catcher Dylan Kelly after an attempted sac fly hit by Griffin. After a few words were exchanged and a slight pushing match between Hatfield and Kelly the umpires and coaches restored order. Both sets of Tigers went scoreless in the eighth. During the ninth Memphis reliever Connor Porter pitched a three up three down inning.

Zach Willis went 3-4 with 1 run, Carter White went 3-4 with 2 runs, Tucker Tubbs was 1-3 1HR 1RBI, Drew Griffin, Jake Little, and Ford Wilson each recorded RBI's. Little, Beeler, Tubbs, White
(2), and Willis recorded runs. Sam Moll pitched 7 innings gave up 1 hit, 0 runs, and struck out 5 batters.

Connor Porter pitched 2 innings, gave up 1 hit, and recorded 4 K's. Rob Zastryzny recorded the loss for Mizzou. Game 2 will take place today at 2pm. Erik Schoenrock is the projected starting pitcher for Memphis and Brett Graves is the slated starter for Missouri.
