Tigers Win Boarder War Rematch 6-0
After losing an early season match up that reached extra innings in the cold weather back in February, this time it was Memphis winning the boarder war versus Arkansas State.
Colton Simbeck got the action started in the second inning by blasting a three run homer over the left field fence that scored Bryce Beeler and Nate Rupiper.
In the third inning Memphis added three more runs. Zach Willis scored off a Beeler RBI single, Tucker Tubbs scored off a Drew Griffin RBI double, and Griffin later scored off a Rupiper left field RBI single.
That was it for the scoring as the Tigers had four more hits the following six innings. The seventh inning was big as the Tigers had multiple hits but left three stranded.
Michael Willis shut down the Red Wolves offense by allowing only two hits and two walks in seven innings of work while striking out four Red Wolf batters. Colin Lee finished off Arkansas State in the final two innings allowing three hits and striking out two Arkansas State batters. M. Willis improves to 4-3 on the year.
Tucker Tubbs and Drew Griffin were both 2-4 with one run each. Z. Willis, Beeler, Rupiper, and Colton Simbeck all recorded runs. Simbeck led the RBI stats with three. Memphis improves to 27-19 on the year. Arkansas State falls to 24-21.
The University of Memphis will play their final ever C-USA series at FedEx Park this weekend as they take on Marshall Thundering Heard for a three game series.
Marshall is 17-26 on the year with a 9-18 road record. Marshall had a 4-1 win over Morehead State tonight and play a Wednesday night game versus Eastern Kentucky.
Memphis is currently in 4th place in C-USA standings and is four games back from leader Southern Miss. Marshall is 5-10 in C-USA play and currently in 8th place. Friday's game is slated for 6:30.
