Football Combine Looks to Fill Local Void

A common and persistent bias exists in football recruiting that favors East Tennessee high school talent over West Tennessee talent. Why is this?

It generally comes down to exposure, plain and simple. Additionally, when looking at the player profiles of kids from Memphis and surrounding areas, it is not uncommon to see them listed without times in the 40-yard dash & the shuttle and without a measured vertical leap.

To fill this void, renowned high school coaching legend Tim "Coach T" Thompson is teaming up with Leroy Watson, Jr. of TigerSportsReport.com to put on the First Annual Premier Sports Nation High School Football Combine.

The event will be held Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Dulins Sports Complex, 7790 Fischer Steel Rd, Cordova, TN 38018, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Check-in time is Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. Early registration costs $50.00 at http://premiersportsnation.com/Registration_2.html. Student athletes may also sign up at the event; the cost is $60.00 the day of the combine.

Having the event at Dulins is an advantage not only because the indoor facility will prevent rain from stopping proceedings, but it also will provide perfect conditions for good times in the 40.

Many of the top high school football players in the area have already confirmed their participation. Already confirmed are 2014 standouts Tony Becton, Nikia Cathey, Cornelius Sturghill, and Ramadi Warren.

Also confirmed are a pair of the bright lights from the 2015 class: Jonathan Johnson (5'8", 170, athlete, Melrose), who already holds an SEC offer (Ole Miss), and massive offensive lineman Drew Richmond, with offers from Memphis, 7 different SEC schools (including national champion Alabama), Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina, Ohio State, Virginia, and scores of other schools.

Camp standouts will be invited to participate in 1-on-1 and 7-on-7 drills. Additionally, strong performances could also lead to young men receiving profiles on Rivals.com as well as write-up on premiersportsnation.com. Media from Rivals as well as other major outlets will attend and/or report results.

Pre-registration is well under way, and space is limited! For further details, contact Leroy Watson, Jr., (901) 315-1246, or Tim Thompson, (901) 649-8259.
