Final 2013 TSR Unsigned Senior Showcase This Weekend and Other News

On Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Victory University, 255 North Highland, TSR Managing Editor Leroy Watson, Jr. proudly presents the final 2013 TigerSportsReport.com Unsigned Senior Showcase, sponsored by Elite Recruiting Service and Victory University.

There is a $20 registration fee for participants. It is free for the public to attend.

The first phase of the event is a free tryout for the Victory University Junior Varsity team. This will take place from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. From 10:00 a.m. until the end, other college coaches will be in attendance to take in proceedings. This phase will end at 1:00 p.m. We'll start with some warm-up drills, followed by 6-minute 5-on-5 scrimmages. There will also be a Showcase All-Star Scrimmage.

In other news:

C.J. Anderson is attending Arlington High School for his senior season after playing for Whitehaven last fall. The Andersons moved back into the Arlington district in the spring and so the 6'5" Anderson will not be back at Whitehaven. No one could be happier than Arlington head coach Don Deaton, who loves Anderson's game and will likely put the lanky slasher at point guard.

Along with Adarius Avery (2015), K.J. Bates (2014) and Jonathan Bowlan (2015), this should make the Tigers prohibitive favorites in District 14-AAA, especially with Craigmont sliding down to Class AA. In addition to all that firepower, they also picked up another transfer, sniper Nathan Hoover (2016), who led Bartlett in scoring last year as a freshman.

D.J. Jackson (2017), one of the most heralded of the incoming high school freshman class, surprised many by enrolling at Fayette Ware High. Most observers (including us) expected the aggressive, talented combo forward to end up at a Memphis-area school, but look for him to thrive at AA Fayette Ware.

The other plum in the Class of '17, Blake Williams, pulled a bit of a swerve on everyone by playing with Bartlett all summer but enrolling at White Station. That's another potential point guard to go with Chris Chiozza (2014), Nych Smith (2015), and Dillion Mitchell (2016).

Williams played up with Team Thad 17-u at the recent AAU Nationals and earned a silver medal as his group made it all the way to the final before succumbing.

In a final news tidbit, the loss of Jermaine Johnson will cast a larger pall over the Melrose program than first thought. Not only is a state championship winner gone from the sidelines, but there are wide rumors that there will be key player defections, as well. However, the selection of Airways Middle top gun Sherman Jones might have stanched some of the blow. At least one player who was almost certain to leave, Chris Jefferson (2014), has decided to stay.

So now, the only questions that remain surround their stellar junior threats Donte Fitzpatrick and Marlon Hunter. We're talking two guys who could be 1-2 in scoring for Melrose this fall (though Jamerrio Jones will certainly be in the mix as soon as he is eligible).

At stake is a potential trip to State, as Melrose is certainly one of the most talented squads in Memphis if everyone decides to stay. That looks like a longshot at best right now.
