Preseason camp: Day 1

Day one is in the books and the Memphis Tigers opened up with helmets, jerseys and shorts as they started their preseason camp.

The players were feeling the heat right out of the gate, literally. The temperature was in the 90's with the heat index of 105.

"Yeah, it was hot out there today but we came through. We had some guys do pretty well. It was a hot day but that's what we want," said Junior Cornerback Bobby McCain.

What it a challenge?

"It was very challenging but it's an opportunity to come out and practice. You don't want to let your team down," Said McCain.

2nd year head coach Justin Fuente acknowledged that the heat played a factor today at times.

There were some mistimed throws, dropped passed, missed assignment but overall given that it was day one and add in a dose of 105 degree heat index the Tigers looked improved over day one of camp last year.

The returning players have a better idea and understanding of what is expected of them from being Fuente's system for a year.

"We know the playbook. We know what Coach wants at practice," McCain said.

Coach Fuente said no one stood out today, being that its day one that is to be expected.

The Tigers will continue practice at 3:30 on Friday and Saturday.
