Memphis-Houston: By the Numbers

The high-flying Houston Cougars host the Memphis Tigers this Saturday night in a game that should be high-scoring and fun for the fans. Locally, the game will be televised on ESPN News on Comcast.

Memphis enters the contest 1-3 on the season after a tough, 24-17 loss at home to UCF. It will be important for the Tigers' momentum to have a good showing against Houston. A win would be a huge confidence-booster with a three-game home stand (versus SMU, Cincinnati and UT-Martin) to follow.

Memphis actually used to dominate the series with Houston. From 2001-'05, Memphis held a 4-1 advantage and won 52-33, 45-14, 41-14, and 35-20 with the lone loss coming 26-21 in 2002. The last 3 wins in that stretch (2003-'05) were the DeAngelo Williams years. Williams went 3-1 against Houston.

So what can we learn about this critical Memphis-Houston match-up when looking at the numbers?
