Cam Jones talks offers

2018 Wide Receiver Cam Jones, from St. Benedict, is really starting to get noticed.

Jones went to the Memphis junior day recently and came away impressed, "I loved it, it was amazing. I can't wait to be back."

Memphis Offensive Coordinator Darrell Dickey is his main recruiter and they instantly hit it off, "He's a great coach, very caring."

Shortly after the junior day, Memphis became the first school to offer Jones. He was thrilled to get the offer, "It's a great feeling, one I'll never forget."

It wasn't long until he received more offers. Tennessee and Indiana followed with offers of their own.

He spoke of the Tennessee offer saying, "My brother (LaRon Harris) played at UT and it was great seeing all the fans and passion for the game there."

He was thankful for the Indiana offer but didn't know too much about the Hoosiers but was willing to find out more about them.

Former UT Vol Marlin Wall is Jones position coach at St. Benedict and knows Jones will be a big time player.

"I believe Cam to be a great kid with a lot of potential! Comes from a really good family in which his older brother LaRon Harris played at Tennessee is the early 2000's so he been around football his whole life and I think that plays into one of his biggest strengths which just stays around the ball.

"Cam just has a major ability to find the ball whether it be on offense or defense the kid just finds a way to make plays and most teams we play try their best to either lock him up on offense or go away from him on defense, the kid still made his way to the ball.

"Cam is a natural athlete that can play many positions and I know this because we have asked him to do this in the two years I have coached him and the kid not only played those positions but was the best at it on our team which makes him very versatile. The sky is the limit for this kid if he gets in the right program, with the right coaches, just because he has a do whatever it takes mentality to win or be successful as a player or as a team"

This off-season, Jones wants to work on his leadership skills.

"I'm more of a leader with my actions instead of my voice. I need to become a more vocal leader. I can always get better in every area of football, I just have to stay focused."

Jones isn't quite ready to make a commitment but is looking for a place where he can contribute and make a difference.

Last year he had 716 yards receiving, 7 receiving TD's, 421 yards rushing, 5 rushing TD's. On defense he had 16 sacks, 27 tackles for loss, 63 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 3 forced fumbles.

He can play both sides of the ball and doesn't have a preference on what position he plays in college. All he wants to do is help the team win.
