Brewton, 6-foot-3, averaged 19.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists this past year for Eastern Florida State College. The Titans won the National Junior College Athletic Association championship and a school-record 31 wins.

He's also a 2-time Southern Conference player of the year. Other schools that were recruiting him were Ohio State, Gonzaga, and Illinois. MTSU and Fordham offered along with Memphis.

Joe Esposito was Brewton's main recruiter.

EFSC coach Jeremy Shulman doesn't hide what he thinks of Brewton. Here's what Shulman told TigerSportsReport-

"Kareem is a truly special player. He is a winner first and foremost- he makes his team and teammates better around him. He just finds a way to win. Kareem is an amazing kid with a great personality and intense work ethic.

"It's rare these days to find a play with his abilities and success, yet at the same time his character and humbled demeanor. Kareem can score at all three levels, and also make plays for others. He is outstanding in transition, and can really get to the rim. Kareem is also a very good defender, and and underrated passer. I believe not only is he a great fit at Memphis, but he will have an outstanding two years for the Tigers!"

Brewton joins Jamal Johnson, David Nickleberry, and Victor Enoh for the recruiting class of 2017.
