Tigers Culminate Preseason Camp with FanFest, Mock Game

A 60-play workout in which the Tigers went through a wide-range of situations marked the culmination of preseason camp Saturday at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. Now, Memphis Football turns its attention to next Saturday's opener against Austin Peay.
The Tigers worked out in light gear with the outcome of each play during Saturday's mock game predetermined. Many of the downs led to scenarios which meant a change in personnel on the field. The mock game even ended with an overtime series.

Fans who came out earlier in the morning for FanFest and stuck around after the mock game for an autograph session, received a small glimpse into the team's routine starting with the traditional Tiger Walk. The Tigers traditionally walk from Tiger Lane outside the Liberty Bowl to their locker room before games.
Additionally, over the last two days the Memphis coaching staff has gone over the team's pregame routine starting with expectations for the practice held the day before games as well as meetings to meals.
The attention now turns to getting ready for next Saturday's season opener against the Governors of Austin Peay. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. In conjunction with the third-annual "Million Meals Challenge," $5 tickets for the game are currently available at all 42 area Kroger stores and will be available through game day as supplies last. Season tickets are also on sale through www.gotigersgo/tickets and in person at the athletic ticket office located at the corner of Southern and Normal on the University of Memphis.
Following Saturday's mock game, Memphis head coach Justin Fuente said the Tigers continue to learn about expectations.
"I think this team is starting to understand the selflessness it takes to play this game," Fuente said. "There are no superstars and the only way for us to get it done is all together."
Memphis' game-week routine begins with a Sunday evening practice. Mondays are the team's weekly day off and then the squad returns to the practice field for the remainder of the week starting on Tuesday.
"We will do a lot less crossover with the One offense practicing against the One defense," Fuente said. "We will do more scout work. We have had a light couple days and I expect we will have a fantastic practice tomorrow evening.
