Tigers fall in Border War

The University Of Memphis Tiger baseball team took on its rival 70 miles from the northeast the Arkansas State Red Wolves for a weekday single game showdown at FedEx Park.
Memphis struck first when Bryce Beeler knocked Carter White in for a first inning score. Most of the game was an offensive struggle until the 7th inning. Ford Wilson reached 2nd base on a fly ball that was dropped by ASU's1st baseman Logan Uxa. After a sacrifice grounder helped Wilson advance to 3rd, it was Carter White's RBI single to centerfield that scored Wilson to put the Tigers up 2-0. However this would be the last time the Tigers crossed the plate.
Arkansas State saw the rest of the offensive action in the 9th inning. Collin Massanelli 2RBI single scored Austin Baker and Ryan Emery to tie the game up at two apiece. As the game moved to an extra frame it was Uxa scoring off an Emery single that snuck through the left side. When the Tigers had their turn to bat Drew Griffin reached on a leadoff single. Griffin advanced to 2nd base after a Bryce Beeler sacrifice bunt and later reached 3rd off a wild pitch. Griffin was left stranded on 3rd after Jake Little struck out swinging and Keaton Aldridge fouled out to 3rd base.
The leading hitters for Memphis were Zach Willis going 2-3, Carter White 2-4 1R 1RBI, and Bryce Beeler 1-2 1RBI. Clayton Gant recorded the loss while giving up one run off of two hits. Michael Willis was the starting pitcher. Willis pitched 4.2 innings, walking two, giving up five hits, while striking out six batters.
