Memphis-area basketball fans are in store for a very unusual, and rather unlikely, treat: a number one team in the country is making the trek to West Tennessee to do battle with a local team.

Yes, Simeon Career Academy, alma mater of reigning NBA MVP Derrick Rose, is heading to Tipton County to take on the Brighton Cardinals. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Brighton Bird Cage.

Brighton is powered by the duo of Demetrius Dyson and Jonathan Starks, though Starks will miss this weekend's game due to an ankle injury. Dyson is 6'6", 195-lb, long and active. He's got a lot of high D-1 interest in him, including the SEC's Tennessee Vols and Memphis of Conference USA. He's an athletic slasher who finishes plays with authority on the break. He doesn't shy from contact and his skill level continues to improve.

Brighton was stopped just short of the Sub State level last year by eventual AAA state champion Craigmont.

Simeon counters with Steve Taylor, a physical, 6'7", 210-lb. senior forward who is committed to Marquette; Kendrick Nunn (6'1", 175), a stud junior who committed to Texas A& M until he changed his mind (Memphis is among the high majors recruiting him); and incomparable junior Jabari Parker, a 6'8", 225-lb small forward, the consensus #1 prospect in 2013 who elicits comparisons to Paul Pierce and Carmelo Anthony for his all-around game.

Nunn is a dynamic combo guard on the high school level who is being recruited as a point guard. With his size, he's a mismatch for smaller point guards. He's a legit stud who will make some college coach very happy once he arrives on campus during the fall of 2013. He's a big target for Josh Pastner and the Tigers.

This is clearly the biggest game in the history of Brighton High School basketball, right at their home in The Bird Cage, 8045 Highway 51 South, in the heart of Brighton. The campus and the Bird Cage can be seen clearly from the highway. Ticket prices are an incredible $5.00 general admission. Parking is free. First come, first served so get there early.
