New Memphis baseball head coach Kerrick Jackson isn't wasting anytime trying to improve this Tigers team and he got a big commitment today in Georgia transfer Glenn Green.
What made him choose Memphis?
"Coach Jackson did. I’m trying to help him put that place on the map where I know it could be," Green told TigerSportsReport.
Green has known Coach Jackson for awhile and they have a great relationship.
"He’s one of the best and most honest coaches I’ve seen. He has great development and plans for Memphis. At Southern he made them a very prominent baseball school. He’s the real deal. I like him a lot. I think he could be a reason this team makes a run for it in the post season."
It's no secret that Green is a great two-way player who can play Pitcher and Third Base. Will Memphis use him as a Pitcher?
"The plan is to have me come in and be a main arm. Regardless what role that is, I believe I can help to on the offensive side. I hope to make a difference."
Who does he model his game after?
"I model my pitching after Justin Verlander and my older brother who played in the minors. He is a good mentor for me on the pitching side. And on the hitting side I model my game after Mike Trout and Tony Gwynn, they are one of my favorite players."
When thinking about match-ups, which MLB pitcher/batter match-up (no matter the era) would he like to see?
"I’d like to see Jacob deGrom vs Tony Gwynn. I feel like that would be a great match-up."
This off-season Green said he wants to stay in baseball shape and keep his arm healthy so he's ready to go when Memphis Baseball season starts.
Is his plan to help Memphis make the postseason next year?
"Not just get to the postseason . My plan is to win the post season and bring a World Series to Memphis and a good culture to it."
Memphis fans would no doubt would love to see his plan come to fruition.
