The Memphis Tigers will be looking for a new defensive coordinator as Matt Barnes will be leaving for Miss State per FootballScoop.com.
Barnes came to Memphis from Ohio State and immediately improved the Tigers defense. Memphis went from 95th in total defense in 2021 to 51st in 2022 in Barnes first year.
This year, however, the Tigers took a step back and fell to 113th in total defense.
Barnes leaving for Miss State will mean that Ryan Silverfield will be looking for his 3rd defensive coordinator. Mike MacIntyre was the Memphis defensive coordinator for Memphis during Silverfield's first two seasons before he left for FIU to become their head coach.
