Memphis needed a quick start and that’s just what happened. The Tigers won the toss and elected to receive and marched 66 yards on 6 plays and scored on a Seth Henigan pass to Caden Prieskorn for a 4-yard touchdown. Then on defense, the Tigers forced a 3-and-out.

Navy was driving down the field but was stuffed on a 4th and 8 from the 35.

Memphis had a strategy of throwing deep and it worked on the next drive as Henigan found a streaking Gabe Rogers for a 41 yard gain to get the ball down to the Navy 40 yard line. The Tigers would end up settling for a Chris Howard 37 yard field goal to take a 10-0 lead.

Navy wouldn’t be down long as they scored on their first pass of the game. Tai Lavatai found a wide open Anton Hall for a 62 yard touchdown. That was Hall’s first career catch and Lavatai’s longest touchdown throw in his career.

In the middle of the 2nd quarter Quindell Johnson ended a great Navy drive with an acrobatic 1 handed interception. Memphis could not capitalize on it and was forced to punt after 6 plays.

The Tigers did add a 38-yard field goal right at halftime to take a 13-7 lead at the break.

The leading rusher for Memphis at halftime was your quarterback, Seth Henigan. The offensive line has pass blocked well but their run blocking has been poor.

The Memphis defense forced Navy to punt on their first possession in the 2nd half. Then the Tigers only needed 1 play to make the score 20-7. Seth Henigan found a streaking Joe Scates for a 79 yards.

The Tigers added another Chris Howard field goal to make it 23-7. The 22-yard FG was Howard’s third of the game.

Navy made it 23-13 after a 1-yd Lavatai score. The 2-pt conversion was no good. That drive was helped by a targeting call that send Memphis linebacker kicked out of the game. He’ll miss the start of next week’s Arkansas State game.

The Tigers finally had a rushing touchdown when Brandon Thomas scored from 6 yards out to make the score 30-13.

With 3:49 left in the game Asa Martin scored from 2-yards out to make it 37-13 and that's how the score would end. Memphis moves to 1-1 (1-0) while Navy drops to 0-2.

Final Numbers:

Seth Henigan 24-34, 415 yards and 2 touchdowns

Asa Martin: 5 carries for 56 yards
