It's game day, and I have compiled quotes from Memphis' players and coaches on their thoughts ahead of the Tigers showdown with preseason top-10 opponent Florida State.
QB Seth Henigan: “I understand the importance of this game and the weight it has going forward with the rest of our season… Demeer (Blankumsee) broke it down for us today; ‘it’s just football.’ It’s the game we’ve been playing since we were five years old. We understand that we’re going to be facing a Power Five program. A well-coached team. A preseason top-10 team.
Henigan’s scouting report on Florida State’s defense: “They’re physical up front. They have a really good defensive line. And their secondary, too; they play a lot of man (coverage). Just a good physical defense”
TE Anthony Landphere: "We all know it’s a big game; everyone’s pretty excited looking forward to it. We got some guys in the locker room who actually played for Mike Norvell. For me personally, they were recruiting me pretty heavily. It’s a big game for me."
Landphere took a visit to Tallahassee in June 2021.
DC Jordon Hankins on D.J. Uiageleilei: “Huge arm, huge person. Big dude. 6’5 250, and he can make any throw on the field. You gotta defend the whole field no matter where he’s at.”
OC Tim Cramsey on FSU’s defense: You name it, they’re good. I know what the world’s saying about them, they’re a good, good defense. Big, athletic, and any other adjective you want to use to describe them. Long, athletic in the secondary. Twitchy and mean at linebacker. Long, athletic and physical on the defensive line.
HC Ryan Silverfield: “Our focus now turns to Florida State. A game that, obviously, a lot of people locally and nationally are excited about. We’re going to have to go on the road and play in front of a great atmosphere, but we’re excited about the challenges ahead.”
