Memphis Softball Signs Six for 2013-14

University of Memphis second-year head softball coach Natalie Poole signed six student-athletes during the early signing period for 2013-14.
Poole's recruiting class includes three infielders, a pitcher, a catcher and an outfielder. The signees are made up of players from six different states and include local middle infielder Sami Jo Schulz fromMunford High School in Munford, Tenn.

OF - Lindsey Crowdus (Houma Christian School - Houma, La.)
Lindsey Crowdus, a four-year letterwinner for her mother at Houma Christian School, has experience as a pitcher, outfielder and at third base. While at Houma Christian School, Crowdus has been an all-district, all-region and all-state selection every year, earning district MVP honors in 2011 and 2012. For her career, Crowdus has hit .531 with 292 hits and 165 stolen bases.
P/1B - Calli Irvin (Plano HS - Plano, Texas)
Calli Irvin, a senior at Plano High School under coachCynthia Zea, is a four-year letterwinner, playing two years at Mount VernonHigh School (2010-11). In 2012, Irvin helped Plano to a 29-6 record and advance to the regional quarterfinals after claiming district and area championships. Last season, Irvin was named an academic all-district and an all-district selection.
C/1B - Haleigh Ross (Barron Collier HS - Naples, Fla.)
A senior at Barron Collier High School, Haleigh Ross has lettered three years under coach Tom Resop. In 2012, she averaged .340 at the plate with a slugging percentage of .536 and a .486 on base percentage, helping the team to a 21-7 record and a district title. Last year, Ross was named an all-area selection for her efforts. Her father, Mathew, is the head baseball coach at St. John Neumann Catholic High School in Naples, while her brother, Tyler, is a junior catcher at LSU. She has two other brothers who are also catchers.
INF - Sami Jo Schulz (Munford HS - Munford, Tenn.)
A two-sport athlete at Munford High School, Sami Jo Schulz played shortstop on the softball team and outside hitter on the volleyball squad. She was the 2011 Star Softball Player of the Year and a Commercial Appeal Best of the Preps finalist. Schulz helped lead the Lady Cougars to back-to-back state tournaments. The 2011 trip was the first in the program's history. A leadoff hitter for Munford, Schulz scored nearly 80 percent of the time when she reached base.
INF - Anna Thomas (Bentonville HS - Bentonville, Ark.)
Anna Thomas has lettered three years at Bentonville High School as a first baseman and catcher under coach Kent Early, earning firstteam all-conference and being named to Northwest Arkansas Media's All-Big 6 Softball team in 2012. Last season, Thomas helped the Tigers reach the state finals by going 3-for-5 with a home run and a double in a 10-9 win over Conway in thestate semifinals. In 2012, she hit .392 and had a fielding percentage of .990.
INF - Brittany Vaughn (Bowling Green HS - Bowling Green, Ky.)
Brittany Vaughn was an all-state selection in 2011-12 while playing for coach Lisa Correa at Bowling Green High School, helping the team to a 30-6-1 record. In 2012, Vaughn hit .513 with 59 hits, nine home runs and 38 RBI in 37 games. She has also been named an all-district pick for two years and an all-region selection all four years of high school. In her last three seasons, Vaughn has hit .430 with 16 home runs, 125 RBI, 70 extra base hits and 211 runs scored in 158 games.
