Memphis downs MTSU 24-7 to improve to 4-1 on the year. Many wonder if there would be a Navy hangover and it seemed like there was in the first quarter as Memphis struggled to get anything going offensively.

The Tigers had to punt twice and missed a 35-yard field goal in the opening quarter.

The Tigers dodged a bullet when MTSU receiver Omari Kelly almost scored on a 69-yd touchdown pass but Kelly fumbled the ball out of the endzone and Memphis would get the ball due to the touchback.

The Memphis defense got Memphis going in the 2nd quarter when cornerback Kobee Minor blitzed and sacked MTSU quarterback Nicholas Vattiato that caused a fumble. Memphis scored 3 plays later when Brandon Thomas rushed from 2 yards out to give Memphis a 7-0 lead.

Memphis made it 14-0 on the next Tigers possession on a 13 lay 70 yard drive that was capped off with a Mario Anderson Jr 4-yd touchdown. Memphis would go into the half with the 14-0 lead. Memphis are 22-6 (3-0 this year) in the Silverfield era when Memphis leads at the half.

MTSU got the ball to start the 2nd half and marched down the field on a 8 play drive for 75 yards to cut into the lead when Blue Raider running back Terry Wilkins scored on a 5-yd run.

Brandon Thomas scored on a 1-yd touchdown to make it 21-7 Memphis on the Tigers next possession. Memphis extended the lead to 24-7 on a 47-yd field goal by Caden Costa and that's how the game would end.

Memphis has a bye next week and their next game will be at USF on October 11th.
